The Simple Things

I have come to find the beauty in simple things. Yesterday as my brother and I were out taking pictures on a very springlike day I took this picture...

...I'm think I'm going to call it "Insulator" (by Barb Dwire)

The wire reminds me of my humor...rusty and twisted :)

How is it that you got "springlike" up there, and we have cold rain here in SoCal? Go figure.

Thank you for posting this. It's been too long since I saw something like that up close. The conversation when seeing a fence like that as a child would go something like this, "Is it electric?" "I dunno." "I'm not gonna climb it. You try it first." Around here there are no electric fences. Just infrared alarms.

Ah yes...Barb Dwire and her cousin, Fen Spost...

I can't tell you how many pairs of pants I've ruined on a barbed wire fence...many days of climbing them, especially in my younger days. Whenever I see an insulator, I think about my dad. He used to be a telephone lineman and climbed telephone poles for many years. He loved to collect insulators, much to my mother's dismay, and we always had a ton of them sitting around, though they were usually a greenish color and clear glass.

I'm jealous. We had rain and sleet yesterday.

Okay ... after reading Lori's comment, now I guess I need to reveal that I do not know what an insulator is, here, ... and I just skipped over that part the first time ... and I did not grow up in pastures or the fields or the country (as my Texas college friends can attest to from "stories" many years ago) ... I did, however, grow up down the street from the beach in Daytona Beach, so I am much more familiar with the tides and surfers and drugs (from my childhood - though I never have surfed or done drugs, but they were all around, and my brother moved to Hawaii so he could continue to surf continuously), so I have no cool stories like that ... and I think I'm rambling ... but I still have no idea what an insulator is or what it's for, but I DO know what barb dwire is ;)

Ame-see the white thing on the post? That is an insulator. They are used (except in this case) to hold the fence wire tight and away from the wooden post. They are made of porcelain as it is not a good conductor but a great insulator.

Not exactly exciting, huh?

We're drawn to simple images. I constantly photograph eeryday, mundane sights - and find great beauty in each challenge!
